A look that isn’t by the book
There are two sides to this story. First, behind the scenes. At the Shoreview branch of the Ramsey County Library, librarians wanted a new administration area. Big offices to manage all their books. Sliding doors to maximize the space. Lots of glass to let natural light shine through. Tons of writable surfaces. Because they had worked with DIRTT before, they knew we could bring their vision to life. But they also wanted to push the limits a bit.
That brings us to part two. Front of house. The library wanted to redesign an area for younger readers with feature walls. To delight children, graphic treatments showcase activities and local authors. In the teen-focused area, they combined a massive glass wall, a built-in television and one-of-a-kind detailing. Form and function work hand in hand. The honeycomb trellis speaks to the other natural design elements that appear in graphics throughout library. And having the technology integrated in the wall protects it in this busy public space. This media wall lets the light in, engages the public and kicks off the Ramsey County Library’s next chapter.
