Building 67 of the Denver Federal Center had been a workhorse since the 1960s, but time had caught up with it. Its occupant, the Denver Bureau of Reclamation, wanted to refresh its 11 floors to better support employees while making the most of the office’s existing features.

The Challenge
DIRTT’s task was to deliver a clean, modern office. It had to be capable of supporting employees while maintaining the building’s character, especially its waffle-slab ceiling. The client wanted to leave that distinctive feature exposed in common areas while using dropped ceilings in offices and meeting spaces.
Our Solution
To streamline the building process, DIRTT deployed a low-profile access floor—just 2.5 inches high. The floor houses quick-connect modular electrical throughout the project. This frees up valuable plenum space and provides easy access for future adds, moves, and changes. In addition, custom steel grills were integrated to promote airflow to the perimeter heating system.
DIRTT’s modular construction system and precision manufacturing set a new standard for accuracy. Paired with our advanced design-integration software, they enable building to ¹⁄₁₆th of an inch making varied ceiling heights, bulkheads, and ductwork easy to accommodate. Functionality was elevated with writable surfaces that encourage on-the-fly collaboration and solid walls that package electrical infrastructure and integrated displays into a streamlined system.
The Impact
The revitalized Building 67 now offers a coherent, contemporary experience across its 11 floors. It’s an efficient space that remains flexible and ready to adapt as needs change. The access floor and the inherent flexibility of the DIRTT Construction System mean reconfigurations and technology upgrades can be handled without costly retrofits.
