Making more space for students
The Gateway Christian School had a problem. After 30 years of teaching kindergarten to grade 12, they were running out of space and running out of time. A large corridor left them with real estate that couldn’t serve their students. The team needed temporary classrooms but didn’t want them to feel temporary. It had to be solid and responsive to change. Further renovations were coming down the line, so the solution had to serve them now and in the future. If that weren’t enough, the building had 16-foot ceilings. And there was no money in the budget to drop down the mechanical and electrical. The list of design challenges just got longer. And they had to be solved in a way that didn’t disrupt the class schedule of 700 kids.
DIRTT did all those things and more. Using 16-foot walls that were half solid and half glass gave the separation they needed. It also let light travel through the space, brightening up this windowless building. On a conventional construction project, those walls wouldn’t make the budget or the schedule. DIRTT did both. And being modular means that when the time comes, changing up the space is that much easier. For right now, though, the walls offer embedded tech, writable surfaces and branded graphics. The kids got back to school on time and Gateway Christian School didn’t sacrifice look, function or budget to do it.
