Stunning performance in an existing building

Greater Atlanta Christian School chose to repurpose an existing chapel, saving more than $15 million in the process. Seating capacity increased from 700 to nearly 1,000 by adding a self-supporting DIRTT Timber Frame balcony. The space was meant to feel like it was built 200 years ago. And at the same time, cutting-edge virtual reality tools were used to envision the space.

Scans of the space were used to create a 3D model of the entire building. The team collaborated with DIRTT's master timber framer for six weeks to create a structurally sound and beautiful design. The existing building didn't have level, square or straight walls and floors. And yet, the DIRTT solution was made to fit, without jeopardizing the aggressive schedule. The timber was cut in five locations in two different countries. It all fit together on-site as planned.
Once I started working with DIRTT, I understood they were a partner with me in design. It created a lot of flexibility.
