This health system needed to renovate their intensive care unit to provide the highest level of nursery care for newborns on a tight construction deadline and with a specific budget. In this high-acuity environment, infection prevention needs and code compliance can make meeting schedule and budget targets challenging. By using a multi-trade prefabricated construction system, this medical center unlocked schedule and cost savings to bring even more value to their updated space.

Instead of using standard brazed copper pipes, this medical center chose DIRTT Flex Gas to bring cost savings to the project. Despite having budget for just 16 headwall units, this reduction allowed them to install two more headwall units. They used furring walls to clad the space and house the med gas, electrical infrastructure, and devices. Without having to demo the space, they completed installation in just three short weeks. Using a construction system that’s manufactured off site with rapid lead times gave the medical center flexibility to make last-minute design changes without impacting the timeline. Even the state health approval was expedited allowing them to open the space on time and on budget.
